Mylle Evelien

Mylle Evelien - Labmanager/ microscopy technician @ ADVANCED LIVE CELL IMAGING

Evelien Mylle graduated in 2001 as Industrial engineer, specialization biochemistry at the Provinciale Industriele Hogeschool (PIH) in Kortrijk, Belgium. After working 6 months at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (DMBR) at Gent University, she moved to Brussels to work at the Scientific Institute of Public Health (IPH), section Biotechnology and Biosafety (SBB) to trace genetic modified organisms in food. Since August 2004, she joined the former Cell Biology Group (Prof. Danny Geelen) at PSB. From 2006 this group changed to the Brassinosteroids group under the supervision of Dr. Eugenia Russinova, where she contributed to study the Brassinosteroid pathway, mainly by using fluorescence microscopy techniques. In order to become more specialized in the microscopy field, she moved from January 2015 to the Advanced Live Cell Imaging group under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Van Damme to further develop new microscopy tools for plant cell biologists at PSB.

Bleys Annick

Bleys Annick - Manuscript administrator @ ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

Scientific writer/editor

In 2001-2002, I did my thesis under the supervision of Dr. Leen Van Houdt in the group of Prof. Ann Depicker at PSB to obtain the degree of Master in Biotechnology, and after obtaining an FWO PhD scholarship, I continued in Ann's group with my research about sequence-specific gene silencing by transitive signals in plants. After obtaining my PhD in 2006, I did a postdoc for two years in the group of Dr. Pierre Hilson at PSB, after which I worked for three years as a Research Consultant for PharmaVize (Ardena). In August 2011, I returned to UGent/PSB as scientific editor, reviewing papers of all groups, and as administrative support for PSB and for the UGent Department of Biotechnology and Biotechnology, and as program coordinator of the MSC in Plant Biotechnology, MSc in Bioinformatics.

Berteloot Olivier

Berteloot Olivier - Postdoctoral fellow @ Evolutionary Systems Biology

Career path

Olivier graduated with a Master in Biology degree in 2012 at Ghent University. Later, in 2024 he obtained his PhD at the faculty of Bioscience Engineering at his Alma Mater investigating the genetic diversity and molecular gut content of Halyomorpha halys, an invasive stink bug in fruit agriculture. His acquired skills in bioinformatics and data science led him to a postdoctoral fellowship in Computational Biology at VIB, Steven Maere Lab on the GC SOY 2.0 project.

Annetta Laure

Annetta Laure - Predoctoral fellow @ ROOT DEVELOPMENT

In 2017, Laure obtained her bachelor degree in Biology, with a specialization in Biology of Organisms and Ecosystems, at the University of Bordeaux (France). Then, she obtained her master degree in Biology Agrosciences in 2019, still at the University of Bordeaux, with a specialization in Mycology and Phytopathology. After almost two years working in R&D department of companies selling microbial biostimulants for plants, she joined the Root development group of Professor Tom Beeckman in 2022 as a PhD student, working on the identification and characterization of nitrification inhibitors in collaboration with an industrial partner.

De Block Jolien

De Block Jolien - Technician @ Vascular Development

In 2008, Jolien obtained her bachelor's degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology at Hogent. Shortly after, she became a member of Prof. Gerrit Beemster's research group at PSB, focusing on organ growth regulation. When Gerrit Beemster moved on from PSB, the group became part of the Yield lab led by Prof. Dr. Dirk Inzé and Dr. Hilde Nelissen. In 2021, Jolien seized the opportunity to join Prof. Bert De Rybel's plant single cell platform. Here, the team is dedicated to expanding their knowledge and expertise in the exciting but challenging field of single-cell and spatial transcriptomics in plants.
