Yves Van de Peer appointed as the new Scientific Director of the VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology

Prof. Yves Van de Peer has been appointed as Scientific Director of the VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology, succeeding Prof. Dirk Inzé, who recently retired from this position.

Yves obtained his PhD at the Department of Biochemistry at Antwerp University in 1996. He is a full professor at Ghent University and has been a Group Leader at VIB since 2001. Yves is also a part-time Full Professor at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and Nanjing Agricultural University, China.

Yves is a leading scientist in the field of comparative plant genomics, exploring the genomic diversity among various plant species. This is crucial for understanding the evolution of plants and identifying genes responsible for important traits such as stress tolerance, disease resistance, and crop yield.

“We are delighted that Yves will take on the role of our new Scientific Director at PSB. He is an internationally renowned scientist with ample leadership experience. VIB General Management is looking forward to working with Yves on the continued success of plant research at VIB” – Christine Durinx, VIB Managing Director.

“I’m very excited to take on the role of Scientific Director at VIB-UGent Plant Systems Biology. Plant research lies at the heart of many of today’s greatest challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable agriculture. I want to continue contributing to the great research coming out of the center, and drive innovation for the future.” – Yves Van de Peer
