Dirk Inzé
Emeritus Professor at Ghent University and VIB

Dirk Inzé is Emeritus Professor (Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology) at Ghent University. From 2002 to 2023, he was Director of the Center for Plant Systems Biology of the biotechnology institute VIB. Under his directorship, the center strengthen its world-leading position as a center of excellence for advanced plant sciences. The center also established numerous research collaborations with national and international AgBio companies. Furthermore, the center generated the scientific foundation of several spin-off companies such as CropDesign (now BASF), ApheaBio, Biotalys, Protealis and most recently RainbowCrops.
The research of Dirk Inzé dealt with the understanding of the molecular basis of plant organ growth, an area of research for which he received world-wide recognition and numerous awards such as the Francqui prize, the five-yearly prize of the FWO and the prestigious World Agriculture Prize. His publications can be found at Google Scholar. Dirk Inze was also awarded two advanced ERC grants (European Research Council) and is appointed member of the Science Council of the ERC. He also is chairperson of EU-SAGE, a consortium of 158 European plant research institutes advocating for the use of Gene Editing for a sustainable agriculture (www.eu-sage.com).
Currently, Dirk Inzé is member of several international science advisory boards of universities, academic institutions and companies. Besides plant biotech, his research passion goes to science based solutions for climate change.
