Hilde NelissenHilde Nelissen is group leader of the Plant Growth Dynamics group, where research is focused around the central biological question: How do growth processes determine final organ size, plant architecture and yield? By integrating translational research from model plants to crops and from the lab to the field with emerging molecular profiling and genome editing, novel candidates are identified at the cellular level and tested at canopy level, resulting in a pipeline from gene discovery to network engineering followed by greenhouse and field evaluations. Because plant organ size control is an important yield component that is also severely impacted by climate change, our ultimate goal is to deepen our understanding of the growth-regulatory networks to enhance our success rate to achieve climate-resilient crops. The applied nature of Hilde’s research ensured a good network with the stakeholders as well as numerous collaborations with breeding and AgBiotech companies.
