Thursday 18 April 2019, 11:00 - 12:30

The focus of our research is to obtain insights in the interplay between cell division and cell expansion in determining final organ size. The spatial organization of the growth processes and the size of the maize leaf offer unique opportunities to study the dynamics between cell division and cell expansion. Several key growth regulators and the resulting phenotypes upon perturbation will be highlighted. Emphasis will be on how these new insights will help us to understand and eventually bridge the valley of death, a metaphor often used to describe the gap between academic research and its commercialization. Therefore, the data will be presented in light of the available knowledge in model organisms, together with lessons learnt from lab-to-field studies.
