Baekelandt Alexandra

Postdoctoral fellow @ Systems Biology of Yield

Alexandra Baekelandt graduated in 2013 as a Master of Science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology (UGent, Belgium). Next, she obtained an IWT grant and started in January 2014 as a predoctoral fellow at the Center for Plant Systems Biology (PSB) of the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB) in the Systems Biology of Yield group headed by Prof. Dr. Dirk Inzé (Ghent, Belgium). During her PhD, Alexandra dissected the contribution of meristemoid asymmetric cell division to leaf growth and identified new molecular networks controlling this process. In December 2018, she obtained her PhD entitled “The PEAPOD2-pathway: central in the regulation of Arabidopsis leaf size and shape”. Since January 2019, Alexandra continues her research in the Systems Biology of Yield group of Prof. Dr. Dirk Inzé as a postdoctoral researcher to further unravel and investigate molecular players in the context of Arabidopsis leaf development. In parallel, she is highly involved in training students and in the CropBooster-P project (https://www.cropbooster-p.eu/), a project funded by the EU Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme aiming to provide a roadmap for future plant research in Europe.
