Philippe Busquin visits Ghent Biotech: the new UGent-VIB research building

Philippe Busquin, European Commissioner for Research, is paying a visit to the new Ghent University - VIB (Flanders Interuniversity Institute for Biotechnology) research building.

Around 310 researchers and technicians from two research departments moved into the brand-new facility in mid-2003. With the aid of gene technology, the scientists are studying the functioning of the human body, plants, and micro-organisms in order to acquire fundamental knowledge that can be dedicated to improving the quality of life. On 18 March, the researchers will present their work to Philippe Busquin and give him a guided tour of their high-tech laboratories.

Philippe Busquin bezoekt Gentse biotech: het nieuwe UGent-VIB-onderzoeksgebouw

Philippe Busquin, Europees Commissaris voor Onderzoek, bezoekt het nieuwe onderzoeksgebouw van de UGent en het VIB (Vlaams Interuniversitair Instituut voor Biotechnologie). Midden 2003 namen ongeveer 310 onderzoekers en technici van twee onderzoeksdepartementen er hun intrek. Met behulp van gentechnologie bestuderen de wetenschappers de werking van het menselijk lichaam, planten en micro-organismen om zo basiskennis te verwerven die ingezet kan worden voor een betere levenskwaliteit. Op 18 maart zullen de onderzoekers hun werk voorstellen aan Philippe Busquin en hem rondleiden in hun high tech labo’s.
