Gent occupies a central position in Europe. With a number of over 50.000, Gent has the largest population of higher education students in Flanders, the Dutch speaking part of Belgium. Several campusus are found within the historical town or at the outskirts of Gent. This makes it a socially and culturally unique and diverse town to welcome the many tourists and students every year. Located at the outskirts of Gent, the Technology Park employs approximately 520 persons dedicated to plant biotechnology, of which 340 work for Bayer BioScience, CropDesign and Devgen. Another company (SoluCel) is expected to move here in the near future. The Technology Park is also known as Flanders Biotech Valley. Travelling to Gent By plane For more information, visit the website of Brussels Airport. By train The easiest way to travel to Gent by train would be through Brussels or Lille. There is a direct train leaving Brussels-Airport for Gent-Sint-Pieters each half an hour, the trip taking about 45 minutes. For train schedules in Belgium, visit the official NMBS website. By bus At the back of the railway station 'Gent St.-Pieters' take bus 70 (direction Zwijnaarde), bus 71 (direction Nazareth) or bus 72 (direction Merelbeke). Get off at the stop marked 'Bollebergen' (the first stop after the bridge over the canal and the motorway). The Technology Park is straight in front of you on the other side of the soft verge. Walk into the park to the roundabout and then straight on. The VIB-UGent research building is the first building on the left. By car From Brussel Leave the E40 on exit 16 "Merelbeke/R4". Stay on the R4 in the direction of "Eeklo R4 Gent". Continue on the R4 past the Coca-Cola factory (+/- 4 Km) and take the exit marked "N60 / Oudenaarde / Zwijnaarde / Gent". Go under the bridge and then turn immediately right (watch out for the cyclists) and follow the N60 to Oudenaarde / Zwijnaarde. Continue on the N60 and turn left (U-turn) before the second traffic lights once more in the direction of Gent. Turn right into the Technology Park and continue past the roundabout. The VIB-UGent research building is the first building on the left. From Oostende Leave the E40 at the exit marked "Gent - Expo". Continue in the direction of "Expo". Stay on the R4 along the ring and take the exit to the N60 Oudenaarde. At the end of the exit road turn right towards Oudenaarde. Stay on the N60 past the first lights and turn left before the second traffic lights once more in the direction of Gent. Turn right into the Technology Park and continue past the roundabout. The VIB-UGent research building is the first building on the left. From Antwerpen On the E17 continue at Gent in the direction of Kortrijk. In Zevergem take exit 8. At the end of the exit road turn left onto the N60 in the direction of Gent. The Technology Park is situated after the fourth set of lights on your right. Turn right into the Technology Park and continue past the roundabout. The VIB-UGent research building is the first building on the left. From Kortrijk On the E17 take exit 8 to Zevergem. You will come on to the N60 Gent-Oudenaarde, in the direction of Gent. The Technology Park is situated after the fourth set of lights on your right. Stay on the N60 past the second set of lights and turn left (U-turn) before the third lights once more in the direction of Gent. Turn right into the Technology Park and continue past the roundabout.
